"Treated with such dignity and respect at a heart-breaking time"

About: St Margaret of Scotland Hospice

(as a relative),

My husband was admitted to St. Margaret’s Hospice in May 2024 following diagnosis of an inoperable Posterior Butterfly Glioma Brain Tumour. Sadly my husband passed away in June 2024.

I was very blessed to have had the opportunity to stay in the hospice with my husband, which was massive for me and our family as my husband suffered great anxiety and I was able to help ease his anxiety by being with him.   I was distraught at the thought of him being alone and thankfully my husband was never left alone during his time at the Hospice.  There is no where else that offers that very personal and precious care for the patient and their family. Wonderful.

The care my husband and I received was second to none and I will be eternally grateful to Sister Rita, Professor Welsh and all staff for their wonderful care in the last 3 weeks of my husband’s life. We as a family will always be so very grateful for the care, treatment, support, love, and strength we received from everyone involved in my husband's care. We were all treated with such dignity and respect at a heart-breaking time in our lives and will be forever grateful to St. Margaret’s Hospice.

Dear Grannyliz,

Firstly, our sincerest condolences for the loss of your husband in June last year. My name is Adrian Dawson, Clinical Systems Manager, at St Margaret of Scotland Hospice. There are simply no words anyone can use at moments like this but if I can share a few with you, I would be grateful.

How beautiful, almost 16 months on from the very sad loss in your life, that you would compose such a compassionate, heartfelt story such as this. No amount of medicine or care can fully eliminate the anxiety facing patients and families during this process, but we are so pleased that being able to stay in our Hospice to help ease this anxiety was hugely beneficial to you. We will always allow this opportunity for families at their hour of need.

Sister Rita, Professor Welsh and all of the team would kindly like to pass on their well wishes to you at this time. I have highlighted your story to the rest of the team and on behalf of each member of staff, we thank you for posting this story as difficult as it may have been for you.

We love each and every patient here at our Hospice as though it was one of our own family members. We walk on this journey with them, and they will never, ever, be alone. As ever, we will be here for you day and night and if you need us, please reach out via 0141 952 1141 or email us at office@smh.org.uk. Our website is www.smh.org.uk for more information if required.

We are sending you lots of hugs and strength at this sad time.

Take care,

Adrian
