"A Life-Saving Journey: My Heart Attack and Recovery Experience"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Cardiac Rehabilitation Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Interventional Cardiology Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Cardiac Rehabilitation

(as the patient),

I had an amazing experience from the moment I walked into the Glasgow Royal Infirmary A & E and it was discovered that I was having a heart attack.

The medical team acted swiftly, carrying out all the necessary procedures with professionalism and care. I was quickly transferred to Ward 43A, where the doctors and nurses gave me outstanding care and attention.

Shortly afterwards, I was transferred to the Golden Jubilee Hospital, Ward 2 East. There, I was looked after by an incredible team of doctors — Dr Tzolos, Dr Lee and Dr Joshi — who performed a complex procedure to insert three stents. Thanks to their expertise, everything went smoothly, and I began my recovery with confidence.

Following the procedure, I was enrolled in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary cardiac rehabilitation service. I’m incredibly grateful for the support I received there. The Tuesday morning sessions were especially informative, covering everything from heart health and medication to exercise, mindfulness and nutrition. It was invaluable knowledge that gave me the tools and confidence to move forward in a positive way.

The afternoon sessions at Tollcross Leisure Centre in Glasgow also played a crucial role in my recovery. They helped me regain my strength and rebuild my fitness far more quickly than I expected. My passion is tennis and I’m pleased to say that I’m now playing again.

I want to express my deepest thanks to all the NHS staff involved in my care.
