"They provided family centred and compassionate care"

About: Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children / Emergency Department Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children / Paediatric Surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

My son and I attended ED last week due to his feeding device dislodging overnight.

I normally am able to put in his device when it comes out. However this came out through the night and his skin around the gastrostomy had already started to close over.

Charlotte the nurse working in ED was very calming towards my son with additional needs. She explained who had been contacted and kept me up to date with the plan of care.

Jenna the gastrostomy nurse attended (this was our first meeting).  She was very knowledgeable and reassuring that she could help me and my son. Within half an hour of meeting her, she had a feeding tube back in the tract and I was able to take my son home.

Thank you Jenna and Charlotte for working well together and putting my son and I’s anxieties at bay. You are both a testament to the NHS and children’s hospital providing family centred and compassionate care.  I wish you both well in your careers. You are both assets and born to be nurses.

Many thanks,
