"They are worth their weight in gold"

About: Motherwell Locality / Motherwell Home Support Service Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department University Hospital Wishaw / Stroke Unit (Ward 11)

(as a relative),

Following on from a stroke, my mother - who is in her 80s -  was attended to by the ambulance service in her home who provided an excellent and caring service. She was then transferred to UHW A&E where she received fantastic care and compassion. All of the staff in A&E couldn’t do enough for my mum and all of her family.

Thereafter she was transferred to Ward 11 where her care was second to none. Every member of staff ranging from nurses, CSW’s, doctors, pharmacists and domestic staff showed professionalism, compassion and a willingness to go the extra mile.

The family were made to feel welcomed, supported and listened to throughout her 4-week stay. Despite the ward being extremely busy, short staffed and stressful, nothing was too much bother for the staff to help my mum or answer any questions we had.

A few members of staff in particular were outstanding in their provision of care, Lynsey, Jessica, Katie, Rachel, Sue, Michelle and SCN Joanna.

After a frank and honest conversation with the stroke consultant, my mum's outcome was not favourable, despite all effort and interventions from hard working nurses and doctors.

My mum's discharge was facilitated by Jean, the nurse in charge, medical staff and Gary the pharmacist for the next day.

We were so grateful for their efficacy and my mum's discharge was able to spend her last 5 days in my home surrounded by all of her family.

We cannot express how grateful we are to all of the ambulance staff, A&E staff, ward 11 staff and district nurses for making this horrendous experience that bit better. They are worth their weight in gold.
