"Birth story"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I came into the hospital with back pain and ended up giving birth, the labour was fast and painful. As I didn’t know I was in labour as I wasn’t due for another two weeks. The trainee midwife was amazing with myself, my baby and my boyfriend. I can’t thank her enough! She listened to me and answered any questions I had or my boyfriend had, which was appreciated as we felt listened to and cared for. Her name was Shelia and I think she will be an amazing midwife one day! We were lucky to have her looking after us.

Dear Carmx85,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience — what an unexpected and intense journey that must have been!

We’re incredibly grateful to hear that Shelia, our student midwife, provided such outstanding care and support to you, your baby, and your boyfriend during a fast and challenging labour. It’s heart warming to know that her attentiveness, compassion, and professionalism made you feel listened to and cared for at such a critical moment.

Your kind words will mean a great deal to Shelia and the wider team. We’ll be sure to pass them on — encouragement like this is invaluable for our students as they grow into their roles.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby! Wishing you all health, happiness, and plenty of peaceful moments together.

Best wishes

Leanne
