"Very pleased and grateful with the support offered on the ward and outside (& post treatment)"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Lochranza Ward Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Play Services Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Youth Support Coordinator Service

(as a parent/guardian),

As a parent of a teenager who was treated on the Lochranza ward of the RHC&YP Edinburgh, I am grateful for the support my daughter (and we as a family) received during her treatment.

Doctors, nurses, other clinical and non clinical staff were brilliant at their job and were always prepared to go the extra mile to make my daughter feel comfortable.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Conor, who has a natural ability to connect well with the teens and support them on the ward, during the tough chemo months and post treatment with numerous planned activities, adventures and social events. Conor helped my daughter when she needed it the most (during her treatment), as someone outside the family who she could talk to.

I have witnessed the positive impact the YSCS has had on my daughter's social skills, her confidence and her mental and physical wellbeing. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Emily who always had something different (activity, craft or challenge) to offer during the tough days/weeks of treatment...

I will ever so grateful for your help as you made a big positive difference during brutal chemo days/weeks. I really hope this support can continue to be offered to the young people on the ward whose life is affected by the horrors of childhood cancer.

Conor & Emily please keep doing the fantastic work you do! Thank you

Dear DRDSK24,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback and I am sorry that your family has had to go through the journey you have.

I am sure that different staff will respond to the amazing comments you have made about others but I manage the play team, which Emily is part of and I wanted to reassure you that these comments will be shared with her. She too will be very grateful that you took the time to share these lovely comments.

Best wishes

Margaret McEwan
