I was admitted recently for a planned replacement hip operation. My son and I were greeted on arrival and made to feel welcome. I was escorted through to the ward, shown toilets and showers etc and taken to my bed.
After a short while the various members of the team came, introduced themselves and went through all the various paperwork and procedures explaining as they went. Cleaners also came and moved the beds to clean under and around been a long time since I witnessed that in hospital. Everything was immaculate.
The staff treated us as individuals not items on a conveyor belt and nothing was too much trouble. During my whole stay I certainly felt like I mattered. Every single member of staff was so kind and considerate.
The evening after my op I had a turn as I transferred from commode to bed, the 2 nurses - Susan and Tasha - got me safely to the floor and kept me engaged until they could get me onto hoist and into bed. Thank you, ladies.
In spite of that episode, I was up showered etc and had physio - she visited 3x a.m and back 2x p.m. making sure I would manage stairs on my return home.
My roommates were all discharged the day after op, I was fortunate to stay another day thus feeling better able to cope coming home to an empty house.
And finally the food was pretty good. All in all an excellent experience.
Huge thank you to all concerned. Just wish we had more hospitals like Stracathro !! More patients would go home ready to cope.
