"Mum's help around her house"

About: Wishaw Locality / Wishaw Community Nursing Team

(as a relative),

My mum can walk but needs to hold onto things around her house. Around 3 weeks ago my mum was getting ready to go to Blackpool for a long weekend. She is not in good health but she was trying to bring a bag down stair but had a bad fall she was on the floor for around 1 hour when my sister walk in and found my mum she was in terrible pain but she still went on holiday but the next day the pain got worse so she had no option but to go to hospital to find out she had a very nasty break on her arm going into her shoulder. When she got home we ask for help only to be told don't worry it will get better. We where hoping to get help long tern for example a double had rail up stair which was told no. I am 50 years old I fall often & they gave me a double head rail up my stair which is the same type of stair case & other support around my house

My mum is in worst health than I am but I got the help but my mum is only getting temporary help but I had more help than my mum. My mother is 70 years old & she now saying she is a burden to my sister and myself. I now go to bed & worry if my mum does something stupid. I am now sleep walking & hurting myself while I sleep due to getting no help for my mum. She worked all her life only to be told she is only getting temporary help around the house which is just not good enough.

Dear Spambo

Thank you for making contact to raise your concerns. I am sorry to hear your mother has experienced a fall, and the resultant impact this has had on you both.

I would be grateful if you could contact the Wishaw Community Care team on 01698 348200 to provide us with further details, which would allow us to investigate this matter. I am keen to ensure relevant support & assistance can be put in place for both your mother and yourself as a carer.

Hi thank you for contacting me. I called the number but you where not in. When I called the answering machine said a team my wife knew & said that she had been in contact with them so as my sister & wife have already spoke to someone in your department. So thanks for getting in contact but my sister & wife feel that your department would not help anymore than you have done so on the advice of my wife & sister. They feel you could not help any further.

I also been seen my GP as I tried to take my life around 10 days ago. I feel due to why I went to see my GP I am not a very good place to help my mum if I not helping myself & that I tried to take my own life. But I want to say thank you for contacting me

Again thank you for sharing what you and your mum have been going through. I’m truly sorry to hear about her fall and the challenges you’ve both faced since then. It sounds like this has been an incredibly difficult time for you and your family, and I appreciate you taking the time to explain the situation so openly. I'm sorry if you felt the team are not able to help but would like to disucss this and understand this.

Please know that your concerns are important to us, and we want to ensure the right support is in place for both your mum and yourself. I would like to personally follow up with you to discuss what options may be available and how we can help.

You can contact me directly at michelle.mckillop@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk, and I will do my best to assist you.

Thank you again for reaching out, and please take care of yourself. We are here to support you.
