"Zero bedside manner"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency

(as a relative),

I was in A&E with my aunty who was in severe pain, I asked for pain meds for her to give her a bit of relief during the long wait to see a doctor and the way the nurse spoke to her was horrendous completely undignified and frankly humiliating!  A conversation that should have happened quietly and with compassion instead happened loudly in a busy waiting room which was clearly heard by a friend also waiting at the opposite side of the room.  Whilst I appreciate the pressure the nurses are under when they are overrun if you can’t talk to patients in a dignified manner maybe you are in the wrong job

While I recognise the pressures our teams face, that should never compromise the standard of communication or compassion we offer. What you’ve described falls short of the values I expect from our staff, and I want to assure you that we take this seriously.
