"Received excellent care within maximum of 40 minutes"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Emergency department

(as a service user),

I attended AED Altnagelvin recently with my 2 year old who had swallowed something he shouldn’t have.

We waited maximum 10-15 mins to be seen by the triage nurse, who was excellent. She was so informative and professional, and worked with such care. The nurse explained she was going to bring us straight round to the paediatric area and informed us that there were dedicated staff on for this area. This information in itself was very reassuring.

We were brought straight round to the Paeds area where we were immediately greeted by the Paediatric Doctor and Nurse, everything was explained and tests carried out immediately. Both the Doctor and nurse were excellent, everything was communicated and explained, my son received great care.  We also attended X-ray, there was no wait and we were imaged very promptly, again everything was explained and the Radiographer worked brilliantly with my son who was not very co-operative. Following imaging we were again greeted immediately by the paediatric team and results were discussed within minutes.

I am so very grateful for the excellent service and care we received, I had expected a long tedious wait and had prepared for such. We were in and out having received excellent care within a maximum of 40mins. A credit to all the staff involved.
