I was discharged from hospital recently. After two weeks lying with very little movement and loss of muscle strength it was difficult to imagine how I would manage at home: everything was difficult - getting out of a chair/sofa, climbing the stairs, showering.
The assessment made by my OT - Emma - was efficient and she addressed all my needs in a very timely fashion; contact was made within 24 hrs.
She has a very professional and courteous manner and she also lifted my spirits as I could see how the aids that she would bring were going to help me.
The following day she came back with all the equipment we had discussed and, on reflection, when I needed some further items she came back a second time with those as well.
She has also arranged for grip handles to be installed in my en suite shower room and she also assessed my needs at the front door for a further grip handle and the best positioning for it.
Emma also assessed my ability to use the stairs and climb into and out of the bath and en-suite shower safely, as well as ensuring I could use the kitchen safely, so as a result I feel a lot more confident in my ability to be independent at home again and my quality of life will return to my baseline soon, I hope.
I feel the Community Discharge Service provided was timely, efficient, excellent and tailored to my specific needs and it was delivered in a caring and very respectful way.
I was also left with contact numbers should I need further help in the future, which was another reassurance for me.
"Feel a lot more confident in my ability to be independent"
