My husband fell down the stairs at home and sustained a head injury and bleed to the brain secondary to blood thinners he was on. He went on to make a full recovery after a 3 week admission.
It was a scary and anxious time although my husband made daily improvements. I was blown away with the quality of input from the Hyper acute major trauma in reach service.
They were available all day Monday to Friday for assessment feedback and family support. Ten days after admission there was a multidisciplinary family update meeting held which was hugely helpful for us as a family
Our Keyworker Claire was excellent and communicated so well with us and offered much support and guidance.
There was a high standard of care from all members of the team from physio, SLT, psychology and OT. I can’t fault any aspect of care and each and every member of the team worked hard and sensitivelty with us to recuperate my husband and prepare us fully for discharge.
We felt very privileged to receive this 5 star quality of care which one might expect in the private sector. As a GP myself I know the pressure the NHS is under and to see the hyper acute in reach team at work and their seamless communication was a pleasure.
After the family update I was even emailed a summary of the meeting which was hugely helpful for me when liaising with family members.
Can’t thank the team and Claire enough.
A special mention goes to Sam the clinical neuropsychologist who put a significant amount of time into assessments and meetings with my husband, his sons and myself over the 3 week period and showed great professionalism and listening skills.
We are lucky to have been referred to the community treatment centre for brain injury on discharge.
Thank you team !
