"They are very special people"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Medicine for the Older Adult (wards 13 - 16)

(as a relative),

When my Nana was admitted to Ward 14 from A&E we did not expect that it would be for end-of-life care.

It has been such an upsetting and scary time. We didn't know what the next few hours/days would be like. We have had negative experiences in the hospital before and were worried about how my Nana would be treated. What we found was a team of people whose kindness, compassion, and professionalism went far beyond anything we could have hoped for.

From the moment she arrived, every member of staff have treated her with such dignity and respect. They took the time to talk to us and get to know her as a person and made sure she was comfortable and cared for at every stage. The nurses, doctors, and support staff were gentle, patient, and endlessly understanding, not only with my Nana but with all of us as a family.

The compassion they are showing in her final days is making an incredibly difficult time a little easier to bear. They continue to ensure she is peaceful, comfortable, and never alone. Their sensitivity, warmth, and professionalism mean so much to us all, and we’ll be forever grateful for the dignity they are helping her maintain right to the end and the support they are offering us as a family.

The staff, every one of them are a true credit to the NHS and to their profession.

Special mentions to Jenny, Olivia, Suzanne and Claire, they are very special people.
