My child attends CAMHS Lisburn in the Lagan Valley site. We have had a good experience but the site is a dump site. There are skips, tractors, building materials strewn everywhere. We have been in therapy rooms when workmen are shouting, cursing, digging, driving tractors. We have been there when fire training has went involving a fire being made at the window then put out whilst all the staff stand around clapping. This is really unbelievable. Our child has repeatedly expressed that in the therapy room, this interference can make it feel unsafe. We have expressed this to staff repeatedly who, whilst understanding and annoyed themselves, have expressed there is nothing they can do, that they have reported it but that it continues.
We feel, as parents, that we and our child are not being listened to. This really is unacceptable. Can somebody please advocate for children and families so that CAMHS is a welcoming and safe place to be. This communicates that children are not important and is not good practice from the NHS. I can't believe this is allowed to happen in this day and age.
