My daughter in law is in the later stages of pregnancy and has pre eclampsia. Following consultation with community midwife she usually is referred to Heartlands Hospital maternity triage service.
I understand that the service is busy and we waited patiently for 5+ hours whilst all investigations are carried out. The seating in the waiting room (yes I understand that it needs to be impervious to water etc) is poor and asking pregnant women to sit in chairs that are a poor design ergonomically for hours on end only exacerbates their suffering.
There is inadequate back support for women who are pregnant and makes their wait uncomfortable before they are seen. There is not enough seating, the area is poorly ventilated, it all adds to the anxiety of expectant mothers. The area needs to be bigger with appropriate seating. I suspect this comment will be met with a bureaucratic response, but I felt I had to highlight the poor seating in the triage area.
