The nursing team on the ward at the day surgery unit were great. They were attentive, responsive and explained things well. They were run off their feet but still efficient and professional. The anaesthetist was also good. Visited me before and after the procedure .
The team in recovery picked up quickly that post surgery I was in pain and distressed and offered pain medication regularly The nurse assigned to me advised the procedure had been difficult. I assumed that this was to explain my pain. I have yet to be informed what was difficult and why.
I felt dismissed by another member of the team there in relation to how I was feeling and glad that my assigned nurse was more compassionate. The recovery nurses team proceeded to have loud conversations together at the station about non medical matters relating to themselves.
When patients are feeling vulnerable and scared a quieter volume of personal conversation and consistency in compassion is required.
I would be grateful to hear from someone regarding the difficulties during my procedure over the next few days.
I would add that my care on the wards before and after the procedure was of a high standard and thank the team there for this.
