"Disorganised, dangerous and unsafe"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Acute Medical Unit

(as a relative),

My Dad was admitted to AMU for a second time having only left Musgrove the day before when he was discharged as medically fit enough for a local psychiatric hospital. They rejected him as not fit enough to be treated so he returned to Musgrove less than 24hrs after being discharged. This is diabolical. Once on AMU we didn’t have a visit from a doctor until the following day so he was left without fluids for 9hrs+, when we were informed previously at the psychiatric hospital that it was a very serious situation and he was very dehydrated with high sodium levels. He should have received medication and fluids as soon as he was admitted to AMU. He has missed medication since he was discharged from Musgrove. I’m completely shocked by the decision making and treatment of my Father while at Musgrove.

Dear lupuspk94

Thank you so much for posting your experience on Care Opinion.

I am so sorry to hear your dad has been unwell and that he was returned to Musgrove Park Hospital after being turned away from a local psychiatric hospital as he was deemed not fit enough for treatment less than 24hrs after his discharge. I can only imagine this must have been very distressing and upsetting for you both.

Please be assured I have shared your story with the Acute Medical Team for their information and to make them aware of the situation.

I hope your father is feeling a little better now, however, if your father is still an inpatient at Musgrove, and you require assistance, please do let us know.

Kind regards

Sarah
