"I had a new bovine aortic valve and bypass surgery"

About: West Glasgow Ambulatory Care Hospital (Yorkhill) / Cardiac Rehabilitation

(as a service user),

I had a bulge on my aorta, which was discover about 8 years ago , so I knew at sometime it would need to be replaced.

I was lucky as it meant that everything could be planned and my surgery went well .

Then I was referred to the cardiac physiotherapy team , 6 weeks after operation.

I did think I would give it a week and if it was rubbish ( I have had useless physiotherapy before ) I just wouldn’t go back .

However Alison , Sheena and the rest of the crew were absolutely amazing. The classes were very mixed ability and ages, but they managed to go round everyone and encourage you to push yourself just a little, while constantly monitoring and watching and making sure nobody was exciting themselves too much. They also held gym classes and walks along with some talks . I would highly recommend that if you are ever in the unfortunate position to need there services, please make sure you take up the offer .

Dear bracewc93

Thank you for taking time to offer feedback to the cardiac rehabilitation team. Hearing from patients is valuable to our service.

I am really pleased to know your surgery went well. Well done you for giving the cardiac rehabilitation classes a try. Getting moving again can be a daunting thought after such a surgery, and if you have had previous negative experiences.

I have passed on your encouraging words to Alison, Sheena and the team who deliver the service at our community classes in Clydebank. It will be reassuring for other patients to hear you felt everyone was monitored closely while encouraged to progress. Thank you for your motivating words to promote the benefits of rehabilitation and support the recovery of others.

We wish you well

Kind regards

Karen
