My son has been receiving treatment on Lochranza for 3 years now.
He was very nervous and shy to begin with, having been thrown into a very scary world. Conor the TCT Youth Support Coordinator checked in with us now and again at the beginning but my son wasn't in a place to engage at that time. Conor always told us we were there if we needed him and gave us his contact details.
Just over a year into our journey my son decided he would like to take part in some TCT activities and so Conor supported him in engaging with the service he provides. He attends pizza nights organised in conjunction with TCT, Young Lives vs Cancer and Love Oliver, takes part in activities organised by Conor such as escape rooms, bowling, pottery classes amongst many other things. The confidence this has given my son has been incredible. He has even attended two residential trips and a 4 day sailing trip which have just been amazing experiences for him.
He has engaged with other Young People and actually made some good friends that he now connects with outside TCT events. It is so amazing to see as he lost a lot of his friends from missing a lot of school throughout his treatment. It has all given him some sense of 'normality'.
Conor is a great support to the young people on Lochranza and absolutely helps with their journey through cancer treatment. He has built reliable and trusting relationships with the current group of teenagers which I know they all value and respect. The service he provides is invaluable and without it my son would not have gained his confidence, connected with others and had the support he needed.
