"They wrote him off with no physio"

About: Kelso Hospital / Older people's care (inpatient)

(as a relative),

My partner had a stroke. He was in hospital and he was transferred to Kelso Community Hospital. We had a meeting and were told that he would get intense physio with his age. But the physio team at Kelso only worked on his sitting balance and one time at the gym they told him in no uncertain terms that he would never walk again. He was on his own being told this and it put his mental health as low as it could go. To be honest I don't think the team had any idea how to work with my partner with the condition he has so I think they wrote him off with no physio at all, and they did not have the equipment to help either.

Hello Anokm75, thank you so much for sharing the experience of your partners physiotherapy in Kelso hospital. I am very sorry to hear about the negative experience he has had and would like to apologise for that.

I would really appreciate an opportunity to explore this more with you and your partner. The way that I would like to do that if you are happy to do so is via our patient experience team.

Their contact details are email, patient.experience@borders.scot.nhs.uk. or you can phone them on 01896 826719

They will then be able to link you to me so that we can start with a conversation about what has happened and explore this together to enable physiotherapy staff to learn from your feedback.

Thank you once again for raising this.
