"Quick and calm birth"

About: Maternity care / Antenatal and Postnatal (Ward 38) Maternity care / Community Midwifery Unit Maternity care / Labour Suite

(as the patient),

I had my second baby in July this year, from start to finish the care I received was nothing short of excellent.

I planned to birth in DMU but my baby had moved her bowels and I had to go to labour suite for an oxytocin drip to get things moving. I was welcomed by midwife Gemma and student midwife Cat. Both were incredible and made me feel safe and comfortable, it felt like I was with friends!! They both worked great together in a way that made me feel inspired to pursue a career in midwifery myself. Things moved along very quickly and my baby was born a couple of hours later. I required some stitches that Gemma done that I was nervous about. She was excellent and Cat stayed next to me keeping me calm during the not so nice procedure.

Cat will be an incredible midwife and an asset to the NHS with her caring and calm nature. Gemma was so knowledgeable and explained things in a way that made me feel like everything was my own choice. Both ladies had a long lasting positive effect on how I will view my second birth forever.

The postnatal ward was a loud and busy environment, through no fault of the midwives. Special mention to Angie and Chelsea on the ward. Chelsea is one of the loveliest people I’ve ever met and helped me so much with feeding. I did not have much input from the infant feeding team but Mariann seen me once and she was so helpful and clearly very knowledgeable and experienced on breast feeding support.

My community midwife Laura also was so supportive throughout my pregnancy and clearly an expert in her field.

Very happy with my overall experience.
