"Child’s tooth extraction"

About: Children, Young People and Families and Specialist Primary Care / Worcestershire Community Dental Service

(as a relative),

My 9 year old daughter was referred to Orchard Place Redditch Community dentist, to have a tooth extraction because she was extremely anxious at our usual dentist and struggled to even open her mouth.

Sanober carried out the extraction with help from Amy the dental nurse. Together they did a fantastic job at keeping my daughter calm and managed to remove the tooth with local anaesthetic, avoiding the need to completely sedate her. I loved the way they referred to different pieces of equipment using kid friendly words and how they said they were- ‘feeding the tooth some sleepy juice through a straw’, when administering the anaesthetic. They  managed to avoid scary terms like, ‘injecting anaesthetic, needle, numbing’. I am also amazed they managed to get her to hold her mouth open. Well done and a big thank you to them both for doing a fantastic job.

The only negative is how long it took to get the tooth extraction. Our dentist referred her in the middle of June and the extraction took place mid October, since then she has had to have 2 lots of antibiotics to clear up infections and she has had to cope with pain on and off. It’s a shame the NHS dentists are under such pressure as there are not enough NHS dental providers.
