"Poor department, excellent staff"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma Assessment Unit

(as a service user),

Admitted to hospital with slipped disc which was irritating a nerve in back. Admitted to ward 15 care excellent. Then advised i would be moved to the Trauma Assessment Unit. Dont be fooled by the name its fracture clinic overspill, mon to fri. And God knows what other clinic waiting areas. Outpatients sitting across from me on phones etc. I'm a medical in patient wearing shorts t-shirt eating my meals using a waiting room chair as bedside table. It looked like the staff I saw who were designated this duty did not like it as they had to hunt down everything from meds to urine bottles, cutlery to actual whole meals missing. One shower room between no idea how many patients.

I could go on about the experience but one thing I will say is the effort from the staff to make it as normal as possible was humbling the embarrassment they tried very well to hide regarding patient surroundings and eating meals out of cardboard boxes with wooden cutlery etc is commendable. I understand the pressures on the nhs and am thankful for the excellent care i continue to receive under the conditions but the so called Trauma Assessment Unit as far as I'm concerned is not fit for purpose as a functioning department. 0 stars for department 10 out of 10 for staff support and care.
