I have suffered anxiety, depression and OCD to a greater or lesser extent since the early 1980s. I was conscious that my anxiety and OCD had increased, possibly a knock on from the pandemic; isolating at home and working from home, etc. Then last December (2024) a medication I took for a prostate condition exacerbated my mental ill-health in that I felt really depressed. I felt similar to when I first had problems in the early 80s and was not in a good place. I stopped the medication and sought help from Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies).
I have just finished 25 weekly 1-hour sessions which were via video link, however, there is a face-to-face option as well.
The therapy consisted of talking through my symptoms and thoughts and the therapist teaching me a number of various techniques to gradually lessen my anguish, etc. The concluding therapy I had was EMDR, which involves rapid side to side eye movement, which I found very helpful.
The therapist was extremely experienced, knowledgeable and professional. My gratitude and thanks goes to him for all his help.
I feel much better and think that this therapy should benefit anyone with this type of mental ill-health.
