I had the copper coil inserted in July 2024. Ever since, my menstrual cycle has been annoyingly irregular and very painful. I waited and waited expecting the pain to go, but it never did. Even when I was not on my menstrual cycle, I would have light cramps every second to third day. A year later, these past two periods have been the most painful where it made me light headed, dizzy and confused.
I booked in for tests from my GP for an ultrasound but as the NHS is overflowed with patients, my test is still outstanding. I took the decision to remove this completely. I couldn’t bear it anymore. I went to the A&E who just prescribed me pain killers. They didn’t request any tests and they said they can’t take it out from an emergency perspective because I have no sign of infection. My GP said they could not remove this.
A few other walk in Centers stated that they do not remove IUDs. Luckily Ryecroft Healthcare Centre offered to do this in under an hour. The nurse was amazing, supportive and efficient. I now have one less problem, and now I will await my appointment to rule off any other potential medical issues I may have.
