"Great care in the Plaster Room"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Plaster Room

(as a parent/guardian),

My son had broken his arm for the second time this year.

We were in the plaster room today to get the cast off. He remembered how the noise and sensations the first time around had  left him shaken and nauseous and suddenly got so nervous. The staff were brilliant. I am so sorry I cannot remember the name of the fantastic lady who offered him ear defenders, endless words of encouragement and got that cast off in record time.

As always, the genuine kindness and care we experience at the Children's Hospital is second to none.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience.

As the Senior Charge Nurse, I’m truly moved to hear how our team supported your son during what was clearly a very anxious moment for him. It’s never easy for a child to face something that previously caused distress, and I’m so proud that our staff responded with such compassion, creativity, and care.

Please accept our sincere thanks for your kind words, and a special thank you to the staff in the plaster room who made such a difference. From offering ear defenders to providing gentle encouragement and swift, skilled care, their actions reflect the very best of what we strive for every day. I’ll make sure your feedback is shared with the team, and we’ll do our best to identify the colleague who helped your son so memorably.

Your appreciation means a great deal to us, and it’s a privilege to care for your family. Wishing your son a smooth recovery and hoping this is the last broken arm for a long time!

Warmest regards,
Mhairi Stirrat
