"All in all, a great, respectful patient experience"

About: Derriford Hospital / Rheumatology Derriford Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

In mid September 2025 I attended the Ortopaedic OPD for a Consultants appt that I had waited well over a year for. I was apprehensive and felt uncertain.

From arrival in the department to the time I left I was I was treated with warmth and respect. I was checked in by a warm and friendly health care assistant. Whilst the waiting area was busty there were plenty of seats and the area was clean, bright and airy.

I was called to my appointment by the  Consultant himself within a couple of minutes of the appointment time. I found him to be personable, open and honest. This was a very therapeutic conversation about major surgery I have put off for many years.

After initial discussion and examination I visited the Xray dept. I was dealt with promptly and efficiently by the radiography team who were engaging and warm. Returning to sit in the waitingvarea once more I was intercepted by the Consultant who took me straight back to his room to finish my consultation.

This was again a therapeutic exchange which led to me feeling positive about proceeding with surgery. Information given to me was clear, honest and delivered with warmth and humour. I felt recognised as an individual rather than a number and able to go away and explore options that will assist both my pre and post surgery self care experience

All in all a great, respectful patient experience .
