"I felt so safe and cared for the entire time"

About: The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Community Midwifery The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Maternity care (wards 68, 72 &73)

(as the patient),

I gave birth at the PRM end of September and had an amazing experience with consistently wonderful and supportive midwives / care team. It was a precipitous labour so I was already 8 or 9cm by the time I got to triage which took everyone by total surprise but they launched into action so quickly and were so so supportive the entire time.

They wheeled me up to the delivery suite and again the care was so fantastic. My birth plan had gone out the window bc it was happening so fast but they tried so hard to make me comfortable and keep me calm as I was in a bit of shock that we were ready to deliver already. The aftercare was wonderful too and they explained what they were doing and why the entire time (I had a 2nd degree tear they thought might be 3rd but they talked me through every check and asked consent etc).

Different midwives popped in to check on us throughout the night before getting me in the shower and then down to ward 68.

I was discharged the next day because I wanted to get home but then readmitted a few days later as baby was jaundice and losing weight and it was the best thing for us tbh, I am so grateful. The ward can be really overwhelming and I think it's natural to want to go home but my advice would be don't rush it.

The team on ward 68 are absolutely phenomenal and I still get emotional a week plus later when I think about all the support they gave me over that weekend with breastfeeding & even wiping my face when I was ugly crying with no free hands. So much empathy and support and I felt so safe and cared for the entire time.

A special shout out to Paula who is actually an angel, but truly everyone on the team was amazing.

Thanks, PRM team - triage, labour/delivery, and Ward 68 ❤️

Dear Virgosun93,

Firstly congratulations on the birth of your new baby. It is so kind of you to take the time to leave your feedback. Such postive feedback can make a huge difference to the moral of our staff.

It does sound like you just made it in time! I am glad the swift actions of the triage midwives got you up to labour ward. It is also great to hear the supportive care continued through your quick birth and into the postnatal period.

I will happily share this with staff in all the areas you have mentioned, with a special mention to Paula.

Thank you once again.

Best Wishes,

Tracy Orr
