"Fertility Treatment - Delays and Lack of Communication"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Regional Fertility Centre

(as the patient),

My GP referred me onto the Fertility waiting list in March 2025 after a year of blood and semen tests in preparation for access to the Fertility Clinic. Following multiple calls to the fertility clinic I was sent a letter in June 2025, which stated we had an upcoming appointment.

We attended Grove Fertility Clinic together and after a scan and review of medical details we were told IVF was the best option to conceive a child. I had blood tests conducted to test AMH levels, and we were advised this was to work as the basis for the IVF medication.

We were told we would be returning to the Clinic with the consultant in order to have a final consultation and begin the IVF Process. From that point on we had no letters and no communication from the fertility clinic or booking office, so after patiently waiting, I called the booking office requesting a date. On that phone call I requested that I be booked in for an appointment slot and this was agreed. We were given an appointment slot for a final consultation with the same consultant.

I recently received a notification on the MyChart app that this appointment has been cancelled by the booking team with no explanation, and that they were unable to book another appointment and I would be placed back on the waiting list. At this point I was absolutely distraught.

When I rang the fertility clinic in Grove, they advised that they do not manage bookings and sent me to the bookings office. The bookings office advised there would now be no clinics in Grove and that I would have to wait until February 2026, at the very least another 5 months to receive an appointment. When asked if I can be seen by another Doctor I was advised this could not happen.

I am upset and disappointed by the care and patient journey that my husband and I have received. We have waited patiently for support, and I cannot understand how another 5 months delay with no alternative appointment or medical consult is acceptable. Especially with such a time sensitive topic as fertility, to delay another 5 months can be the difference in our treatment being successful!

We are now looking at another 5 months of waiting, just for a 15-minute follow-up consultation so we can confirm final agreement on IVF, when we already stated at the initial appointment this is something we wanted, and we were interested in moving forward asap. We have conducted all relevant tests; we have been patient but determined to source appointments and now out of nowhere it feels that we have had everything pulled away from us.
