Despite all the horror stories (some valid and others may be alarmist news) I experienced a real example of care and caring for a patient within the NHS Scotland.
I was referred by my GP for urgent attention for a possible skin cancer and received an appointment within 4 weeks. The specialist was exemplary in her care and detail in the examination. There was no doubt to me as a patient there was empathy and genuine care in the well being of the patient. She went to great lengths to make sure the patient understood what was going on and what can be expected in the way the future process of diagnosing the problem was going to be.
Possible cancer of any type can be stressful but my doctor was slow and concerned that the patient, me, was aware and understood what was the current and future avenues.
"A shining example of great care and attention"
