"Breast screening experience"

About: NHS Grampian / North East Scotland Breast Screening Centre

(as a service user),

Whilst overall my experience at Fraserburgh was a positive experience, I would like to highlight a comment made by the member of staff carrying out the mammogram.

They said the results would be sent to me in 4 weeks.  They then said - You're not going away on holiday are you? This has been playing on my mind for the past 4 weeks - did they see something bad on the mammogram etc?

Thankfully my results arrived and it was good news.  All I want to say is to be mindful that this is a stressful time and to be careful of comments made - however innocent.

Good afternoon Mrs62

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback around communication during your recent breast screening appointment. The radiographers routinely ask if a woman has a holiday in the coming weeks. This is so the booking team are aware if additional images or further assessment is required and is not as a result of the mammogram just taken. However I can appreciate how this question could lead to worry and stress and I am delighted to hear that your results were normal.

I will pass your comments on to the Superintendent Radiographer so she can discuss with her team how asking this question could be framed in a way not to cause stress.

Many thanks

Sarah
