"Problem with high glucose"

About: Vale of Leven General Hospital / Medical Assessment Unit (MAU)

(as a relative),

I want to share the outstanding care and help my husband received at the Medical Assessment Centre at the Vale of Leven Hospital.

He is a well controlled type 2 diabetic and has never had any major health concerns with it. At Lunchtime he felt very unwell he was very confused, disorientated dizzy and vomiting. A blood glucose test showed his glucose was 20! This is unheard of. I was unable to get through to 111 so drove to the Vale hospital for help. We were seen very quickly and he was taken away.

I am extremely hard of hearing so am at a disadvantage. Each and every member of staff took time to explain to me what they were doing there were so many of them and each was so kind, I only remember Dr Foley and Derek by name the unit was busy but Derek went out of his way to reassure a sick confused man.

We were discharged later that evening the problem was likely an infection. Following the pandemic we live in a changed world, I find people are too quick to find fault, and the poor NHS and Police service, I feel are goaded by the popular press often bear the brunt of this. We know we are not alone many people are very happy with their medical care here in Scotland within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Authority, but the medical care, kindness compassion and dignity given to us by Dr Foley and all the team will never be forgotten.

One last thing, can the highest possible authority within the Health Board be informed about our outstanding care we are sure they already know what an asset they have in the Medical Assessment Unit at the Vale of Leven Hospital and every single person who works there. We are so grateful.

A wee post script, after a day off he was back to normal and back to  work with no after effects. Many many thanks again, we are truly in safe hands with NHS Scotland.
