"She was exceptionally calm and patient"

About: Children & Young People Physical Health / Children's Neuro Development Service Doncaster

(as a parent/guardian),

Myself and my son started our journey when he was 2 years old, but after getting no support from school we were ready to give up. However, finally, in year 2 his teacher helped us get onto the GDA pathway. First we were told that it was purely behavioural, but the BOSS referral was closed and were assigned Clare, who has been so supportive and helpful throughout last last few months. Regularly checking in, giving alternative ideas and making me feel I was doing the right things to support my son.

My son bonded with Clare also, which was strange as he usually hates new people. She was exceptionally calm and patient, listening to him every time he went off tangent and ensuring he felt heard. After every appointment he would tell me "I like Clare" and ask when we would next see her (and her bag of tricks). Clare made us feel we could approach her between appointments if required which meant a lot since the 2 of us had been battling alone for so long. My son has now been diagnosed with AuDHD and is being referred to the post diagnostic team and we are looking forward to see what the future holds now everything looks a lot more positive.

Good afternoon Bilbo293,

My name is Jola and im the Team Manager for the Doncaster Children's Neurodevelopment team. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us with this fantastic feedback about Claire.

We sadly hear of so many stories like yours where the right support is not provided or delayed, so its really heart warming to hear of how valuable both you and your son have found the support from Claire. It doesn't surprise me at all that she (and her bag of tricks) gave you such wonderful support, I know how much she values her interactions with patients and families, and how well she listens to them.

Im fully confident that you would have received an equally high level of support from anyone in our team, and that you will continue to receive this from our post diagnosis team. But it really sounds like Claire's unique style really made a difference in your lives. I will be passing this on to Claire, (im sure it will make her day), as well as sharing this with the wider team.

Thank you so much for getting in touch.

Kind regards

Jola Obisesan
