Unknowingly, my body was experiencing heart problems. After two days of painful discomfort, I attended Ninewells Accident & Emergency unit and was immediately admitted into hospital care.
I received an angiogram procedure with two stents inserted into my artery to aid blood flow to my heart as this was restricted and making things difficult for my heart to work adequately. From resus I was moved to ward 27 for a couple of days then ward 1 for several days and then a final ward for release. I may have got the ward numbers wrong. From the moment I was admitted to my release, I experienced exceptional professional care. All staff were very compassionate, engaging, well-trained with students receiving on-the-job training. They all were smart in their uniforms and personal presentation and this made me feel comfortable in such pleasant surroundings. A simple thing like this helped me during my stay. I was fully informed in the procedures of my treatmentThe food was enjoyable and always hot, with generous portion sizes.I was made to understand that in my time of weakness and vulnerability, I was in supportive, caring hands and this reassured me of making a good recovery from the body's heart attack.Although the whole experience was outstanding and peaceful, a special memory for me was around 4am one morning when I experienced shooting pain in my arms and was agitated. Caitlin, the nurse caring for me on that shift, came and kneeling by my bedside, sought to understand and relieve me of the pain and ministered compassion. It truly touched my heart. I always felt cared for even amongst a ward of patients. Well done and thank you, to all Ninewells staff from admin reception to medical and nursing as well as domestics. You were all super and helped me immensely.
