"Wait for Screening Mammograms"

Breast screening results in North Lanarkshire are currently taking 6-7wks.  This is after I was delayed waiting for screening (current wait time between 10-14wks).  Is it okay to have an extended wait for both screening & results?  Are abnormal results prioritised or could I be potentially walking about with breast cancer for months?  How many women would think it acceptable to wait 6/7wks to then get a recall? 

I fully appreciate the lack of qualified staff.  What I don't understand is yet again we're back to blaming the Covid Pandemic.  I had a screening 3yrs ago.  Results took 3 weeks.  I believe that North Lanarkshire Health Authority is failing in its duty of care for every woman who uses the breast screening service.

Many thanks for taking the time to share feedback with the breast screening service.

West of Scotland Breast Screening Service (WOSBSS) is part of a nationally commissioned programme overseen by National Services Scotland (NSS), over recent years the service has experienced delays for a number of reasons. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) host the service for the West of Scotland including Lanarkshire.

NHSGGC and NSS are working closely together to address these delays.

We sincerely apologise that your screening mammogram was delayed by 12- 14 weeks and that the report may take longer than the usual two-week timeframe. WOSBSS remains committed to delivering high-quality clinical care and has implemented measures to balance the timely acquisition of images with the reporting and communication of results to clients.
