"Dietician - She really knows her stuff"

About: Royal Cornhill Hospital / Dietetics

(as the patient),

Sarai is amazing. She really knows her stuff and takes so much of her time to give you a very personal experience. She is very factual about diet and corrects misinformation about diet. I believe social media has a lot to answer for with people not eating the right things due to trends and marketing that confuse me. No fat, no salt, no sugar, no carbs, high protein- when in fact we need all of these in the correct amounts and this is exactly what Sarai has informed me and corrected me about.

She is very considerate to consider allergies and food aversions and finds ways to work around this and I feel like her and my ADHD doctor at the same hospital are the only people that have taken me seriously and educated me about the stigmas around mental health and how some (but not all) conditions are neurological or cognitive and start in the brain rather than suggest the person is just nuts and purposely acting wrong. Such as fibromyalgia, ADHD and food aversions that can be cognitive issues- similar to how autoimmune issues develop- rather than someone being troublesome or crazy. Epilepsy starts in the brain and isn’t stigmatised so I wonder why this is?

Cognition and neurological things are organic and are not something someone does deliberately and I hope the NHS gets support in educating people on that fact in society and within healthcare from staff. I’ve wasted so much of my life looking for differential diagnosis due to the stigma around fibromyalgia and ADHD so that I wasn’t so judged when in fact these conditions are just as blameless and stigmatised unfairly.
