"Excellent and thorough service"

I attended the Borders Sexual Health service in Galashiels HC to have a Mirena coil insertion. I have had two coils before so I was prepared for how the procedure would be. I had a bad experience getting the last one so I was quite nervous. I came along with a lot of questions as well.

I was greeted very warmly and the doctor was so kind and attentive. He listened to my concerns and answered all of my questions, and just really took the time to make sure I was totally comfortable about going ahead with it.

The procedure itself was what it was. I can't say it was enjoyable, but it wasn't the worst either. The assistant who came in was very supportive and made sure I was aware I could withdraw my consent at any time. I was not rushed out of the consulting room (this happened to me the time before) and I was encouraged to sit for a while and have a drink. As a result I feel fine now a couple of days later.

It makes such a big difference to take just a few minutes extra with a patient and I think that colleagues in other health boards could learn from this. Far too often patients are rushed and certainly for myself that has led to negative outcomes. Thank you so much to the kind and caring staff I had on the day - you deserve a medal!
