"The team were busy but so efficient"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency North Devon District Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

We recently visited with my teenage son after an injury at school. The journey to the hospital was pretty hairy because he was wailing in pain but when we arrived at the ED, it was no time before we were triaged.

The Nurse could see that my son was in a lot of pain so didn’t waste any time sorting the pain relief out. We were able to stay in the side room whilst he lay on the bed where it was more comfortable. We were there for several hours whilst they sorted out X-rays, orthopaedics opinion and ultimately admission for surgery. The team were busy but so efficient and kept coming in to check on my son.

Special thanks to Nurses Sarah and Pam who showed empathy, knowledge and reassurance through a somewhat traumatic time. Pam was able to put a temporary plaster slab on his arm too which saved us a walk over to fracture clinic!

When he was admitted, we were also well looked after on the ward by the student Nurse Fran and other Nurses on the ward and in recovery. Everybody was just so lovely, we can’t thank them enough!

Dear Devon 45,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us your feedback, I am sorry to hear of your son's injury at school which brought him into the Emergency Department. I am glad that the ED team were able to attend to your son quickly to manage his pain and try to get him more comfortable.

I will ensure that all the ED team get to see your comments and especially Sarah and Pam.

I hope your son is recovering well, and thank you again for providing us your feedback

Best wishes

Sophie Hutchings
