"They are giving my family outstanding support"

About: Fife Community Services / Community Mental Health Fife Community Services / Complex Care team Fife Community Services / Hospital at Home General practices in Fife

(as a carer),

NHS Fife is giving my family outstanding support. I want to find a way to help all those in NHS know they are delivering a brilliant service - I get very frustrated how the print media seemingly endlessly criticises the NHS.

I never read or see positive experiences as our family has enjoyed for the past few years. Our family consists of me and I am in my late 70's. I have excellent health because my only health issue is rehamatoid arthritis. The treatment since 2019 means I have forgotten about the illness - which in 2019 meant I was in constant pain and was becoming immobile.

My wife is in her mid 70's and she has a degenerative disease called Vascular Gait Disorder. The support for her is fantastic and that helps keep her very mentally positive now she is totally wheelchair bound.

Her mother lives with us and is now more than 100 years old - she is frail but can dress and shower herself and is mentally as sharp as those half her age.

In February 2025 her life was saved due to the fast interaction of her GP and the superb Hospital at Home service. Our son has severe mental health issues and again the support from NHS Fife has been totally terrific.

I hope the above description reaches the NHS professionals in Fife as I cannot find a channel in NHS Fife to communicate our gratitude.

@Macgregor. Thank you for taking the time to make a comment on Care Opinion for our Hospital at Home Service. It is lovely to hear that the team had such a positive impact on your whole family. To hear how you all share a home together and the support that must bring to you all is heart warming. Can you please email me so that I can pass on your lovely comment to the appropriate team. Thank you again for your comments and please take care.

Yours sincerely,

Lorna Mackenzie
