"Help given to my wife and myself"

About: Intermediate and Transitional Care / Community Rehabilitation Team

(as a service user),

My wife has bowel and lung cancer. She is undergoing chemotherapy for the next couple of months.

She was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis and she was hospitalised for four days.

On release, she was referred to an occupational therapist called Emma in west Belfast.

Emma immediately called Roger who is a physiotherapist.

Within 48 hours of her first visit, Emma had her team at our home putting in all of the ongoing aids my wife needed for relief of pain in everyday living.

Emma and her team are first rate professionals and all of her team are pleasant and extremely helpful.

We would be lost without them.

Dear tauruseq58

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. We’re truly sorry to hear about the challenges your wife is facing, and we’re glad that Emma and the wider team were able to support you both during such a difficult time.

Occupational therapy is all about enabling people to live as fully and comfortably as possible, and it’s heartening to hear that the aids and adaptations made a real difference to your wife’s daily life. Emma and her colleagues will be delighted to know their work had such a positive impact.

Your kind words mean a great deal to the team, and we’ll make sure they are passed on. If there’s anything further we can do to support you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Wishing you and your wife continued strength and comfort.

Warm regards,
Julie Bray

Thank you so much. We are really appreciative of you taking the time to contact us about the input from our team. As their manager, I am delighted that Emma and Roger were able to have a positive impact with the equipment they provided. Sometimes these simple additions can make such a difference.

Emma and Roger are part of the Community Discharge Service, who are often the first team to make contact after someone returns home from hospital. We appreciate that this can be a difficult time with a lot of uncertainty and I am delighted that their response was not only timely, but that you also felt they were professional, helpful and pleasant.

I will be sure to pass on your kind words which will mean so much to Emma, Roger and the team. I wish you and your wife well through everything you may face over the coming months.

Kind Regards

Gillian McElhinney

Community Discharge Service Manager
