Woke up early this June with no sensation in lower left leg and foot drop. Went to Grimsby A&E who performed MRI & X-ray and Ct. Were discussing with Hull Neurosurgery as trying to transfer me there - Hull refused and said discharge with urgent Outpatient appointment 3-4 weeks.
Didn’t happen tried chasing up but given total run around on the phone, lots of different numbers and eventually told urgent appointments up to 3 months. I then developed severe cellulitis in the leg and foot - Grimsby A&E doctors again tried to refer me to neurosurgery and again was refused. I did however get referred for an urgent appointment with Hull Vascular due to conditions of foot. I contacted PALS and received a phone call from a gentleman who was a ‘manager in neurosciences’ would only give his first name.
Said I should have gone straight to Hull A&E and with foot drop would have been admitted. But it would not be the norm to go to another A&E when I have one in my area - who tried very hard to send me to Hull - TWICE. When I saw vascular (who were superb) I then went down to Hull A&E - the doctor there rang neurosurgery to get someone down and yet again they refused! I then update my PALS complaint to include this. I eventually received an appointment first week of October and received a call Thursday prior to cancel! Rang neurosurgery on the Monday and told no free appointments so ring back 2-3 weeks to see if any cancellations. Another update to PALS - and to date no response from them other than my initial contact. I had a missed call today from Bookings and infringing back there was no record of the call or reason for it.
Altogether my experience of Hull Neurosurgery could not be any worse! I am now semi disabled and no idea whether I will ever get an appointment. I am worried there is permanent damage. This reflects extremely badly on the hospital and shows a lack of patient care. I feel totally let down by this department and also by PALS who have ignored my requests for help.
