This isn't the first time I've had trouble with long wait times in seeing a doctor/consultant during my pregnancy journey. The staff in ward 9A such as the nurses and Midwives are amazing, but it's the wait between seeing them and a consultant or doctor that is the main issue.
I have a one year old son and a lack of babysitters that can take him for as long as these wait times are, and so more than once I've had to leave and rely on phone calls, over something that in my opinion could have just been passed down to the midwives if it was a case of getting the all clear and being sent home. Between a recent scan on my leg, I've waited 3 hours to be seen after the review, which is not feasible for me when I have a child at home that needs me.
I think that all cases just need to be looked at a little better, and perhaps the files that come back as perfectly fine and the patient is to be sent home, I don't see why someone should have to sit and wait for what could be hours to be told information that the midwives and other staff are able to pass on to save delays and people waiting for a large portion of their day.
I am also a huge advocate of just feeling that the midwives and such on the ward should be free to do these things as they are trained to do it, I don't personally believe we need a doctor to specifically tell us that we can go home, or that our bloods came back clear, or that the scan results were perfect. It is just creating longer wait times and frustration on both sides, but I cannot fault the midwives and nurses in the ward, every visit has been pleasant with them, I just cannot stand the wait times and I feel a lot of improvement can be done with very simple steps.
