My daughter, who is now diagnosed with RAS (seizure). We thought she was dying, she turned blue and stopped breathing. Went limp, we rushed her to A&E. She was taken immediately due to the severity of her reaction. She came round and we were taken into resus. The team in the department were awesome.
The doctor on call was very attentive and arranged the checks for her ASAP. She was checked a few times and sent for a CT scan. She is one year old and was very irritated and sad after having a canula. The CT team were brilliant with both her, and myself who was absolutely terrified of the machine. Allowed her mum to stay, during the process and made a difficult situation feel easy.
The nurses in the resus ward were an asset to the NHS. The care they gave to my daughter, my wife and myself was very very appreciated. They gave us the best chances to calm my daughter down as well as constant checks. All of which was being done whilst receiving verbal abuse from another member of the public. The composure and attitude of both the ladies was 11 out of 10 and both deserve the recognition for what can only be a very stressful night.
Thanks to the doctor, my daughter was sent to ward 19, where the care and attention was very much appreciated. The ladies on the ward were again very supportive and even had a bit of fun with me. As you can imagine the night and situation left me agitated and unable to rest so was trying to assist with moving beds etc. Of which the joke was made - Dae you want a job son. The small joke although might not seem like much brought a small light hearted moment to what was an absolute nightmare of a night.
We were then moved to ward 20 where my daughter again was checked given some ice cream which made her very happy.
She was given all due care and checks from the doctors. We were informed of the situation and what was happening all though out the night and day putting both my wife and myself at ease.
The final wee thing was seeing the dog. Jasper coming into the ward cheered up both my wee girl and wife. It also lifted the spirits of everyone in the ward. This is a fantastic idea and one I would love to see implemented elsewhere.
I cannot fault any staff who interacted with my daughter or family during the course of the night. The care and attention given to my family was second to none and I am eternally grateful.
"Outstanding support and care"
