"My experience was excellent"

About: Trauma & orthopaedics / Orthopaedic National Treatment Centre

(as the patient),

I was offered the chance to have both of my total knee replacements at the National Treatment Centre in Kirkcaldy, having been referred there by NHS Lothian. My left knee was done in June, then my right knee in September.

I am so glad I decided to opt for the NTC in Kirkcaldy as my experience from start to finish was excellent. From reception staff right up to the consultant, Mr Shenoy and his entire team including all the nurses I was treated with kindness and care.

NHS Fife can be very proud of this facility which is bright and clean and airy. There is a calmness around the whole place and they put you at ease by explaining everything in detail and ensuring you are involved at every stage of your care.

After my first knee was done it was obvious the operation had been a big success and I am very pleased with the results and I am now recovering after the right knee replacement.

Even though I had to travel from my home in Edinburgh to receive treatment it was only a 40 minute trip so it wasn’t inconvenient in any way and it enabled me to have my knee replacements earlier than if I had waited for treatment in Edinburgh.

If anyone is offered their treatment at this hospital I would jump at the chance. Thank you to everyone involved with my care it was much appreciated.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to provide this valuable feedback, about your recent stay at the National Treatment Centre. As a team we love to read about patient experiences within our clinical area. This allows our team to develop and grow from the feedback provided.

I am so pleased to read that both of your inpatient stays at the National Treatment Centre have been positive. The National Treatment Centre team works hard to try to deliver high quality, co-ordinated and person-centred care. Therefore, it is rewarding to that you found the service to be excellent and were treated with kindness and care. This will mean a lot to the whole team.

Communication and patient involvement is very important to us, as this allows personalised care and treatment plans to be created, to help each individual to reach their full potential. Hence, I am pleased to know that all aspects of your care were explained to you and you were involved in the decision making process, at every stage.

I will share your kind words with the NTC team and I am sure they will be delighted with your feedback.

I hope you are recovering well following your second knee replacement and have regained a better quality of life through this.

Best wishes and take care,

Briony Klos
