"My anxiety"

About: Adult Health & Support Services / Occupational Therapy

(as the patient),

I felt like I had no control over anything that was happening in my life and I was also overwhelmed by my situation. I had so many responsibilities, I wanted to go to bed and not have to get up again until the situation changed.

Hi Starbug,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience and I hope that you are feeling less overwhelmed now - it sounds as though it has been a very tough time for you.

I wonder if you could share the name of the occupational therapist that you worked with so we can link any feedback to the staff... and possibly a little more about your experience of the service you received if you feel able... but no problem if not.

As mentioned before thanks for your post and I wish you all the very best for the future.

Kind regards

Joanne

Update posted by Starbug (the patient)

My occasional therapist is Mary.

My anxiety had been fairly easy to deal with originally, that said it was almost constant, it became much harder to deal with when my other half had a stroke. I thought I was coping with the stress and the worry but it turned out that I wasn’t coping at all. I spent a lot of the time crying, I couldn’t talk to anyone without crying, I wanted the whole world to go away and leave me alone. I was off work, my income was drastically reduced, I had to fill in lots of forms for both of us for benefits that we were not eligible for, and all the while still trying to do all of the household stuff that needed doing. Basically, I fell apart.

When I started OT I was probably at my lowest, Mary gave me the tools that I needed to get to where I needed to be, to be able to look after us both and deal with whatever problem comes up, one thing at a time, and if I need some time to myself, not to feel guilty about it.

Thanks so much Starbug for telling us more about your experience

I will make sure to pass your feedback on to Mary and am sure she will be very pleased to know that you are now feeling more able to manage in your day to day, especially since you have have had such stressful times recenlty. I am also glad to hear that you feel more able to take some time for you - self care is so important but at times not easy to do - so well done!

Thanks again for posting and wishing you and your family all the very best for the future

Take care

Joanne
