About: South West Acute Hospital / Orthoptics

(as the patient),

I was referred to Ophthalmology in August of 2023 for an outpatients appointment. I was told it would probably be over a year before I received my appointment date, which I was fine with. However, I was called in May 2024 and asked to attend Enniskillen Hospital. Everyone I dealt with deserves huge thanks.

The first lady I saw was incredibly friendly and professional. She tested my vision whilst putting me completely at ease. I felt comfortable as she was so kind and jovial, which was wonderful as I was apprehensive and a bit scared.

Then the lady who performed the procedure was amazing. She was polite, incredibly calming and so skilful and competent. She first sat me down across the table from her and explained in detail everything that she was going to do, which was fantastic. Then, when we moved to the operating area, she explained once more before she did anything so there were no surprises and I knew exactly what to expect. She talked me through everything she was doing as she was working. She obviously took great pride in her work as she was gentle, thorough, and amazingly good at her job. She protected my eyelashes specifically so they would grow back, and she did everything she could to preserve my eyelid. She did not rush and she took time to answer all of my questions. I felt no pain during the procedure and I was left knowing exactly what to do following it. 

My eyelid has now healed perfectly and I would like the team to know how much I appreciate what they have done. I am truly thankful that I will never again experience the discomfort the lump caused. Everyone went above and beyond what was required, and I am so grateful for not only what they did, but how they did it. I was so impressed by their professionalism, kindness, friendliness and dedication to doing a fantastic job. It is probably all in a day’s work to these fabulous people, but for those that they treat and care for, it makes a whole world of difference. Thank you so much.
