"Not enough focus on the patient"

About: Community Midwifery / Craigavon & Banbridge

(as a service user),

I attended Banbridge Polyclinic for my 31 week appointment.

At the time I was swollen and not feeling 100%. When my blood pressure was taken it was made very clear that it was high but new readings were taken throughout the appointment and the lowest one was then recorded. My bump was also measured during this appointment. Overall the appointment had taken around one hour. This time was mostly spent navigating encompass as it was relatively new at this stage. 3 weeks later my baby was delivered via emergency c section as I had been diagnosed elsewhere with preeclampsia. I think if more focus had been given to the patient than the new computer system this condition could have been picked up on as my blood pressure was raised, growth had slowed, and swelling.

I instead had a difficult birth and my baby was unwell when born. I feel things could have been different if a little more attention was given.

Dear greenxw98

Firstly. Congratulations on the birth of your baby.

My name is Carol McGirr and I am the Community Midwifery Team Leader managing Banbridge Community Midwives.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to complete a care opinion. I am sorry to hear that you feel this way following your experience with the Banbridge Community Midwives. As you are aware Encompass was implemented Trust wide in May. This delayed all aspects of care provided in the early days of navigating the new system. I am sorry that your appointment that would normally be scheduled for fifteen minutes lasted an hour.

I am unable to comment on specific aspects of your personal antenatal care. However, I am very willing to speak with you if you would like to contact me.

My email address is carol.mcgirr@southerntrust.hscni.net / telephone: 07785332988

I hope you and your baby are doing well.

Kind Regards

Carol McGirr
