"Illness"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency

(as a relative),

Extremely ill coughing/spewing blood. Cannot eat 5 days since last solids. Now can’t take fluid without sever diarrhoea . Also just fainted in waiting area and still we have been waiting 3.5 hrs and not been seen. Waiting time for the severity of assessment is shocking!

Lack of staff, and the staff on in triage very stern, no care , speaking to you like a robot. Staff walking about on phones talking to each other with seemingly nothing to do but a room full of ill patients watching is frustrating.

Total lost faith in the NHS due to this experience.

The doctor didn’t even check in his mouth or feel his glands when that’s where is sore and think the blood is coming from. Doctor told him he looked fine when he definitely does not he is yellow! Given nothing for his fever or his lower back pain.

Dear Gaz190,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I’m truly sorry to hear about the distressing situation you and your loved one faced during your recent visit to our Emergency Department. I understand how frightening and frustrating it must have been, especially given the severity of the symptoms described and the extended wait time.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in assessment and for any interactions with staff that felt uncaring or dismissive. This is not the standard of care we strive to provide, and I deeply regret that your experience has led to a loss of faith in our service.

Your feedback regarding the clinical assessment and communication from staff is concerning and will be taken seriously. Care opinion doesn't share personal details, if you would like to email me direct at karen.hughes10@nhs.scot with your relatives name, date of birth and day of attendance, I will look into this further.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. Please be assured we are committed to learning from this and improving the care we provide.

with kind regards,

Karen.
