I broke my elbow recently and went to the MIU where I was X-rayed, given pain killers, a sling and correctly advised that I would need surgery so should go to Brighton. Sue, the practice nurse, and Adrian, the radiographer, were caring and professional - a really excellent service. I asked if a referral message would be sent to Brighton but was told that this was not how the system worked.
At Brighton, I was triaged by Susie, seen again, assessed and had a pop back slab applied by Daniel, and eventually seen by the orthopods who confirmed that I would need surgery, arranged for Mia to take blood samples, then allowed me to go home. All of these hospital staff were fantastic, and I felt cared for by them all - particularly impressive given they work in such a pressured, and lets be honest, sometimes hostile environment.
However, I was asked a number of times(diplomatically), why the MIU had not made a referral as this would have enabled me to be seen by the orthopods straight away, saving me and my escort a lot of time (assuming the orthopods were free of course) and would certainly have saved some staff time.
"A really excellent service"
