"Disappointed by the level of care"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Acute Medical Initial Assessment

(as a relative),

Following my granny’s admission to ward 101, I was really shocked and disappointed by the level of care carried out overnight when there early October. On numerous occasions I had to ask for basic routine checks to be carried out, eg: comfort, repositioning and hygiene. My understanding as a person who works in healthcare myself, is that a patient of my granny’s condition should have been checked at least 2 hourly. I had to ask to more than once for my granny to be made comfortable, and although these checks were ‘carried out’. It was quite clear to myself that, my granny had not been re positioned. There had been a pillow crammed in at her back, her head and arms were so close to the bars and her legs were over the edge of the bed. Although I spoke to a senior staff member and things were dealt with. I just want to make sure that nobody has the same experience that we did.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience in ward 101. The senior staff nurse who you spoke with at the time had escalated the care to myself and we have spoken with the team at the time. This is not the expected standard of care we would expect and apologise that this has happened. The feedback has been shared with the wider team. If you If you would like me to discuss further for you please contact me on debbie.whyte@nhs.scot.

Regards

Debbie
